INTEGRITY, RELIABILITY AND FAILURE IN DENTAL MATERIALS
AND PROSTHODONTIC APPLIANCES

 

Dental Medicine is a medical science that includes, among other themes, a deep knowledge of dental materials and its physical and mechanical properties, in order to ensure patients the best possible treatment. It is in this area of knowledge that mechanics and materials may represent a big contribution to the evolution of dental science and, ultimately, to an improvement of oral care procedures in patients.

This symposium will welcome papers in various areas of dental medicine, such as medical instrumentation, dental device design processes, prosthodontics, dental materials, implants, occlusion, orthodontics, or others, where there is an important contribution of materials and mechanical techniques.

Papers are solicited in the following and related areas: Energy and Environment, Renewable energies and technologies, Heat pump and refrigeration systems, Co-generation, Thermal power systems, Energy sources and sustainability. Papers concerning computational and experimental methods in all fields of thermal sciences are also welcome such as: Computation and Experimental Fluids Dynamics, Heat and mass transfer, Fluid Mechanics, rheology, combustion, heat transfer, thermal machines, ventilation, materials processing technologies under thermal conditions, mixed numerical and experimental optimal design of thermal systems, solar systems, data acquisition based on artificial neural networks, and indoor air quality. LEAN & GREEN MANUFACTURING

 

Original work developed in the areas of Lean & Green Manufacturing can be submitted to the symposium. This is aimed at the application of Lean Thinking principles and Cradle-to-Cradle akin concepts, targeting more efficient & cleaner operations and products. Among other topics, the use of Lean & Green Manufacturing tools, e.g. VSM+EHS, 5S (+Safety), Six-Sigma, SMED, Poka-Yoke, JIT, Waste Elimination Techniques, Industrial Symbiosis, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Cleaner Production, Biomimicry, Sustainability Reporting, Eco-labelling, Eco-Efficiency & Eco-Design, and Design and Reconfiguration of production systems (e.g. cellular manufacturing implementations) are welcome.

The symposium is also intended to provide an opportunity to gather researchers and practitioners of Lean & Green Manufacturing and discuss the latest achievements and future challenges. Companies and institutions case studies on initiatives and proposals towards sustainability by ways of reducing waste, energy intensity, water consumption and raw materials, while improving their leanness and agility, are also appreciated..

ADVANCES IN NANOENGINEERING

 

The development and utilisation of materials, fillers, devices, and systems with dimensions on the order of 0.1 to 100 nanometers, exhibiting novel and significantly enhanced mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical, and biological properties, due to their nanoscopic size and large aspect ratios, is attracting considerable attention from the scientific community. It is the purpose of this symposium to address issues relating to modelling and characterisation of nanocomposites, nanofillers and nanodevices such as MEMS and NMES. Mechanical, electrical and medical applications of nanoengineering are also welcomed.
