EM 304 - Mechanical Engineering Materials I (Materiais de Constução Mecânica I)

I – Constructional steels II – Tool steels III – Stainlesss steels IV – Maraging steels V – Cast Irons VI – Non-ferrous alloys.

Objectives

The main objective of this discipline is to give engineering students a broad understanding about ferrous and non-ferrous alloys in order to allow optimization of materials selection exercises. Understanding of relationships between microstucture and mechanical properties is essential to heat treatment design. Therefore ways to obtain different microstures are studied for materials such as steels, cast-irons and non-ferrous alloys: Experimental studies are carried out to familiarize students with engineering materials their properties and their limitations. There studies include material testing after thermal or thermo mechanical treatments.
