EM 516 - Experimental Stress Analysis (Análise Experimental de Tensões)

Extensometry, Photoelasticity and Moiré. The presentation of each technique is complemented with the discussion of recent works performed in the Laboratory of Optical Methods and Experimental Mechanics (LOME). Presentation of the new laser interferometry techniques for experimental mechanics. TV-holography (CW or pulsed), shearography and shape characterization are presented from the fundaments to applications and its special requirements in what concerns mechanical stability and equipment needed. Image processing techniques for experimental data analysis, algorithms and examples.

Objectives

The students work in groups to perform laboratory tests. The course is an introduction to experimental mechanics. The students are familiarized with experimental techniques that can be used in the design and to analyse new prototypes of machine components or structures.
