EM 610 - Complements of Automatic Control (Complementos de Controlo Automático)

Dynamic systems mathematical modelling. Non-linear systems: linearization around an equilibrium point; phase plane analysis; the use of describing functions on the prediction of limitcycles; compensation. State-space theory and its use on the simulation and identification of dynamic systems. Modern control: controller synthesis in the time domain; observers; comparison between modern and classical control. Introduction to digital control: difference equations; z transform; the aliasing phenomena; discrete approximations of a continuous time controller; Tustin transformation; controller synthesis in the w domain.

Objectives

To complement the knowledge on Automatic Control theory, with a specific Mechanical Engineering orientation. Some subjects are deepened and new ones are introduced enabling: to account for the always present non-linear plant behaviour; to model and numerically simulate the time behaviour of dynamic systems; to numerically implement control algorithms, allowing the use of computer control.
