Equipments: Melting and holding furnaces, pressure die casting automized cells including injection curves programming, introduction to the deburring presses; Mould Design: Main components, type of used steels, calculation support on mould gates, overflows, venting, plates thickness and contour, mould slides, cooling channels; Casting design: General dimensioning casting rules (3D Unigraphics software), type of alloys used, mechanical properties, process repeatability, geometric tolerances, type of casting defects,, process flow simulation (Flow 3D software); Cost calculation: Cycle times, number of mould cavities, process cost evaluation; Machining: Type of CNC equipments, champing and cutting tools; New technologies: Introduction to the squeeze casting and Semi Solid casting process; Health/Security/Environment: Introduction to the subjects, law regulations, waste disposal, waste flow diagrams.

Objectives

Knowledge of the pressure die casting process of light alloys. Students are envolved with the process production flows, equipments and peripherals, die casting moulds and other tools, type of alloys, part design including dimensioning and cost calculation.
