From SCIENCE to INNOVATION

LEPAE is a research unit of the Faculty of Engineering of Porto focused on Chemical, Environmental and Biological Engineering, and related fields, with three main target areas:

Environment and Health;
Energy, Processes and Products;
Biotechnology and Interfaces.

A distinct feature of LEPAE’s activities is the ability to articulate the search for scientific advances with technological applications and innovative solutions.

The background of LEPAE’s staff is multidisciplinary, with fundamental skills in environmental and food chemistry, reaction and separation science, advanced mathematical simulation, surface science, environmental biotechnology and molecular biology, waste gas and solid waste processes, automatic process control and transport phenomena.

LEPAE keeps an average of 100 researchers, 24 being the permanent scientific staff. Since its foundation in 1998, LEPAE has been classified as Excellent by the international expert committees appointed by the Science and Technology Foundation.
