FEUP

History

This Faculty dates back to 1762, when the Nautical School was created.
In 1911, it was founded as an Affiliated School to the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. In 1915, it became a Technical Faculty and, in 1926, it was renamed Faculty of Engineering.
Nowadays, it is one of the largest Faculties of the UP, with about 5,150 students and more than 400 acedmic staff, of which about two thirds hold a doctoral degree.

 

Courses

Presently, FEUP awards Integrated Masters degrees (5 years full time degrees) in 9 engineering specialties.
The courses provide students with a gateway to professional and technical careers amongst a wide range of jobs in industry and services, local and public authorities, education, research, manufacturing, construction, etc.

FEUP currently organizes 19 Doctoral Programs.

 

Organisation

The Faculty is organized in departments since 1990; today there are 9 departments. The Departments are divided into sections.

 

Research

Besides teaching, the Faculty develops research activities and renders services through research centres and interface institutes. These organizations have as their main goal the utilization of the scientific, technical, human and material resources of the FEUP in the development of fundamental or applied research. These centres also give an important assistance to the accomplishment of Master's and Doctoral thesis.

 

Services

The Faculty of Engineering has several services, namely a modern Library with 500 seats, a Computer Centre which provides network connections and manages more than 20 informatics rooms, an Auditorium with 500 seats and with all the audiovisual equipment, a Multimedia Centre for digital copy, digitalization and multimedia edition, a canteen and three bars and several areas for work and leisure. The Faculty also provides a Student Support Office, External Relations and Continuous Training services.
