My name is Joćo Miguel Figueiredo Ferreira and I am currently finishing my master degree in electronic engineering at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto. This web page gathers all the documents and work done during my thesis/dissertation project. The title of this thesis is "Civionics an emerging interdisciplinary area".
Civionics is the combination of electronic engineering with civil engineering, it is an emerging area which the main application is the use of electronic systems for structural health monitoring. As the name points out the goal is to measure the state of civil structures in order to understand its condition and study its behavior. My thesis focus on the structural health monitoring sytems and the study of their portability versus accuracy. The system in development is suited for a bridge structure, but should be able to work in other types of civil constructions. Wireless communications, MEMS sensors and other portable technologies are studied.
This project is integrated with the Structures Laboratory (LABEST) from the civil engineering department and is oriented by Prof Dr. Adriano Carvalho from the electronic engineering department.
