In this test the goal is to evaluate the perceptual similarity between a reference sound and orchestrations. The orchestrations are combinations of musical instrument sounds that aim to imitate the reference sound. Each time, you will be presented 1 reference sound and 10 orchestrations. For each orchestration you are asked to rate the overall perceptual similarity in relation to the reference sound using the following scale: Very Different; Different; Fairly Similar; Similar; Very Similar. The orchestrations are presented randomly and are not ordered by any similarity measure.
After rating the perceptual similarity in relation to the reference, you will be asked to evaluate the overall diversity of the orchestrations using the same scale as before. The overall diversity is your evaluation of how different the orchestrations are from one another.
The test shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Please read carefully the following information, even though you are used to doing such tests!
