- Develops data acquisition systems to record earthquakes and solar
radiation.

Nacional de Sistemas de Computadores (INESC- Porto):
- HIGH-FI Audio signals Digitalization to be transmitted by optical
fibres in a digital network.
- Design and implementation of a prototype
optical link for "Wave Division Multiplexing" in multi-mode
optical fibres.
- Design and implementation of a 8.048Mbit/s optical link as part of
the INESC´s SIFO project (Integrated System by Optical Fibres),
which was sponsored by the Portuguese PTT.
- Design and implementation of equipment for digital communications
testing, namely Pseudo-Random Sequence Generators, HDB3 interfaces,
etc.
- Organizes and presents courses on optical fibre technology and
electronics.
- Conceives and develops a novel optical system to measure dams’
horizontal displacements (project TELECOORD). The firm EDP,
responsible for the power supply distribution network in Portugal,
showed great interest on this system, therefore he starts working in
the industry on the first TELECOORD industrial prototype.
1990:
Joined the
company MICROPROCESSADOR S.A. formerly connected to the Portuguese
industrial group SONAE and later to EFACEC.
- Responsible for the TELECOORD’s industrialization.

Supervises the building of the prototype .
Supervises its installation in the dams CRESTUMA
and PRACANA. - Develops software in "C" for the micro-controllers (6809
and 6303 of MOTOROLA) for other industrial projects.
- From July 93 to September 93 was involved in the development of a
supervision system of Sá Carneiro's airport of Porto, using
ONSPEC running on the VMS operating system.
SEPTEMBER
93: Quits
MICROPROCESSADOR and start his independent job:
- Develops Windows program in "C" for controlling the process
of temperature calibration for the laboratory of metrology of Centro
de Apoio Técnico à Indústria Metalomecânica
(CATIM).
- Was responsible for the automation of a line of revision of wood
plaques for JOMAR, using a PLC SIEMENS.
- Again invited by MICROPROCESSADOR to develop a fast method to
recognize shape of tires based on imaging processing and Fast Fourier
Transforms (FFT). Develops Windows application for that purpose,
directed at the lines of production of tires of MABOR.
JUNE
94: Invited
to join Centro de Ciências e Tecnologias Ópticas (CETO)
of University of Porto, to develop scientific software:
- Participation in the Summer School "Trends
in Optical Fibre Metrology and Standards",
in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, form June to July 1994.
- Involved in CETO in the following projects:

.Develops Windows applications in "C" for colour calculation

1995: Starts
Masters course in the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto
(FEUP).
- NOVEMBER
1995 to JULY 1996:
Develops Windows application dedicated to wind energy analysis for
the Instituto de Engenharia Mecânica e Gestão industrial
(INEGI), linked to FEUP.
NOVEMBER
1996: With
a research grant, enters the Secção de Gestão e
Engenharia Industrial (GEIN) of the Faculty of Engineering of
University of Porto (FEUP) as researcher, being one of those
responsible for its LASSIP laboratory.
- Invited by prof. José Fernando Gonçalves to join his team of research on Operational Research.
- Develops software in "Visual Object" to resolve
mathematical system equations by the SIMPLEX method.
- Since January 1997 dedicated to the development of object-oriented
software for Simulating Warehouse systems, using Visual C++. By means
of this application some industrial layouts proposed by the
enterprise EFACEC have been studied and simulated, under the supervision of prof. António Carvalho Brito.
- Attends the Dr. Sean McCarthy course of the European Association of
Research Managers and Administrators, on "How to write a
competitive proposal for the EC Fifth Framework Program", April
1999.
- Writes and publishes "Computer
Simulation", a
technical book on the fundamentals
and practice of simulation, with the collaboration of Prof. António
E. S. Carvalho Brito from the same Faculty.
- Lectures “Discrete
Simulation” at the
Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB) and
“Introduction to
Computers” at the
Universidade Lusíada of Porto.
MARCH
2002: Receives
a doctoral grant from the Fundação
para a Ciência e a Tecnologia
(FCT), and restarts his doctoral studies in the Faculty of
Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP):
- Develops work in the field of computer simulation with the objective
of creating a novel approach to Supply Chain modelling and
simulation.
- Contacts and stays at the CCLT of Cranfield
University, UK, advised by Mr Richard Saw, an expert on Supply
Chain management, where a significant part of his Doctorate is
conceived.
- Contacts and stays in Germany, for discussion of projects related to
Supply Chain management, and visits to the companies BARKAWI
(Supply Chain Consultancy), and the headquarters of BMW
(car industry), both in München.
FEBRUARY
2004: Contacts and
discussions with Dra Fatima Rateb at the University
of
Granada, related to
the simulation of complex systems by means of Agents technology.
SEPTEMBER
2004: Simulation of a
real industrial case of Supply Chain: the procurement
of additives for lubricants in the Oil Refinery of Porto (Portugal),
for the enterprise
GALPENERGIA.
FEBRUARY
2005: Begins writing
his Doctoral thesis in parallel with the co-organization of the
European
Simulation and Modelling Conference
(ESM2005), a EUROSIS conference to be held at his university.
- Participation in “The
2005 Industrial Simulation Conference”,
Berlin, Germany, Jun 2005,
presenting an article about the simulation of the real case study of
GALPENERGIA.
- Chairs various sessions in this conference.
OCTOBER
2005:
General chairman of the European
Simulation and Modelling Conference
(ESM2005), held at the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University,
24-26 October, and the editor of the subsequent book of proceedings,
together with Prof António E. S. Carvalho Brito.
NOVEMBER
2005: applies to
Fundação
para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) for
a Post-doctoral fellowship under the title “Simulating
a new principle for retrieving electric energy from the sun”,
with the idea of joining his skills both in simulation and in
physics.
MARCH
2006: submits doctoral
thesis on “Flexible
Supply Chain Simulation”
to the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.
APRIL
2006 to OCTOBER 2006:
Presents private lectures on basic informatics to a group of senior
citizens under a social project of Junta
de Freguesia de Póvoa de Varzim.
AUGUST
2006: the
Post-doctoral fellowship of FCT was refused.
SEPTEMBER
2006: receives his
Doctoral degree from the Faculty of Engineering of University of
Porto.
OCTOBER
2006 to DECEMBER 2006:
Dedicated to his private research on renewable energy systems, mainly
about wind energy and new wind turbine designs, and publishes various
articles on the Internet about the subject.
JANUARY
2007: accepts the
invitation from Professor Álvaro Costa, an expert on public
transport systems, to join his team at the Company TRENMO,
dedicated to transports and modelling, as a simulation consultant.
Here conceives and develops a dynamic simulation model for the Metro
Light Rail network of Porto
(Metro do Porto).
APRIL
2007: as a private
consultant, participates in a “Study
of Simulation for Analysing the Industrial Restructure of the
Enterprise
CIFIAL”, of Eng
Ludgero Marques, a study which would be part of a more general
project planned by INESC-INEGI. In August 2007, however, decides to
abandon this project due to unsustainable delays on the gathering and
the treatment of the information needed for testing and developing
his simulation models.
JUNE
2007: delivers the
tutorial “scMod/Sim.exe,

JULY
2007: produces to
TRENMO the first simulation study about the operation of the Yellow
Line of the Metro
Light Rail network of Porto, under the title “Pensamentos
Sobre a Linha Amarela II”.
AUGUST
2007: invited by Dr.
Ehsan Abdi from the Electrical Engineering Division of the
Engineering Department of the University
of Cambridge,
UK, to design, develop, test and assemble a convergent wind turbine
for his project: developing a wind system for generating electricity.
The contacts remained on standby due to some disagreement on the
property rights on the turbine.
OCTOBER
2007: joins
Universidade
Lusófona do Porto
as an invited professor, in order to chair and lecture “Introdução
à Computação”
(Introduction
to Computation) in
the course of Sciences
of the Communication and the Culture.
- Presents and publishes a novel method for metro network
analysis, the
“Circles model”,
at the European
Simulation and Modelling Conference
(ESM2007), Westin Dragonara Hotel, Malta, 22-24 October 2007, under
the title “Circles
Model for Metro Light Rail Analysis”.
NOVEMBER
2007: produces (to
TRENMO) the second simulation study about the operation of the Yellow
Line of the Metro
Light Rail network of Porto, under the title “Linha
Amarela, comparação entre realidade e simulação”,
where the reliability and the potential of his Metro simulator are
confirmed.
DECEMBER
2007: ends the
one-year consultancy contract with TRENMO. His software for modelling
and simulation, MetroModSim.exe
is ready, including the complete model of the Metro of Porto network.
Version 1.0 has been offered to TRENMO. The version 2.0 of
MetroModSim.exe
