Commemorative scarves 1977-1994 The Dragon's fire ... starts heating Europe and the World! |
|
1976-77 - Portuguese Cup Winner |
|
A relic! It is for sure one of the first commemorative scarves in the world and the very first of FC Porto! Coming back to FC Porto, the great coach Pedroto wins the Portuguese Cup! From left to right: Pedroto, Torres, Freitas, Rodolfo, Simões, Murça, Gabriel, Taí, Octávio, Gomes, Duda and Oliveira. (printed type, double face):

A scarf that many said that didn't exist! Italian edition, satin type, with printed lettering and pictures:

Only possible thanks to Alessandro Scaglione's kindness! |
|
1985-86 - Bi-Champion of Portugal |
|
This is probably the first of a kind of scarves that became very popular in the following years: the material is satin, the details are stamped, the production is homemade and the quality is ... poor! Put the pointer over the image to see the inscription and the crest in detail:

A very, very special gesture of friendship of Álvaro Groba |
|
1986-87 - European Champion Clubs' Cup |
|
A rarity, about which information is scarce! It shows, not only the Porto's crest, but also the crests of all the teams met by Porto in its road to the final: Rabat Ajax (Malta), Víktovice Ostrava (Czechoslovakia), Brøndby (Denmark) and Dinamo Kyiv (USRR). Since this scarf doesn't exhibit the Bayern's crest, I believe it should be edited before the semi-finals with Dinamo. Satin printed type. Put the pointer over the image to see the crests in detail:

1986-87 - European Champion Clubs' Cup Final, Porto-Bayern |
|
German edition for the Bayern supporters (notice that there is no reference to FC Porto). Woolen type scarf (more likely acrylic) with stamped inscriptions:

A very, very special gift of my FRIEND Bruno Sampaio |

Another German edition for Bayern fans (there is no reference to FC Porto, too), printed acrylic type:

In 1987, Álvaro Groba brought this scarf from Vienna and gave it to a friend. 19 years |

Blue and white acrylic type scarf, with printed crests and inscriptions:

1986-87 - European and World Champion |
|
Another precious piece! It's not dated but it was certainly made in 1987 or even in 1988, since the Intercontinental Cup has been held in December. It's a acrylic type scarf with printed crests and inscriptions. It's an initiative of the former fans group Dragões Azuis (Blue Dragons). Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

A gift of my young friend Bruno Maia |
|
Another copy of the same former edition, which has been waiting for me, during 20 years, in Germany (Danke, Tina!). Its inclusion here allow pointing out the primitive way of producing these scarves in that time: this one is bigger than the former, the inscriptions show differences and the fringes have different colour:

Printed satin type edition, another initiative of the former fans group Dragões Azuis (Blue Dragons):

1987 - UEFA Super Cup, Porto-Ajax (2 legs) |
|
No match scarves for this cup are known. Scarves were not so popular yet. I have been watching carefully the videos of the two legs and I couldn't see any supporter wearing scarf. However, if any Ajax supporter wore one, it would probably be one of these. It's a acrylic type scarf, or similar, with stamped inscriptions and it's from that time:

Although the Ajax crest displayed in this scarf is the old one, it is unlikely from the 1987-88 season. In fact, being of the jacquard type, with two equal faces, it should have been produced at a later date, but not much:

Acrylic type scarf, with stamped inscriptions and drawings:

1987-88 - Champion of Portugal |

At first sight, I thought that this scarf was equal to a former printed acrylic scarf, celebrating also the European and World titles. However, looking at the caption under the crests one can see that is a commemorative scarf of the 1987-88 title. Put the pointer over the image to see the referred detail:

Not being dated, this scarf can refer to 1992-93 or 1993-94! I believe it is from 1992-93, but I'm not sure. Printed satin type. Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

Another non-dated scarf, which can refer to 1992-93 or 1993-94! However, given the high similarity of style with other scarves of 1992-93, I believe it is from this year. Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

1993-94 - Champions League, Group Stage, FCP, Milan, Anderlecht, Werder Bremen |
|
Werder Bremen's edition, two equal faces jacquard type, for the Champions League, with a special meaning for FC Porto. Werder Bremen came to the "Champions" 93/94 edition as the champion of one of the mightiest of football nations. In the first two rounds, Bremen eliminated Dinamo Minsk and Levski. Then, it integrated FC Porto's group stage; after the fourth match, Bremen could be qualified if it defeated Porto, in Bremen, and if it won one point in Brussels. But, in Bremen, FC Porto smashed the German champion by 0-5, in one of the most brilliant pages of its history:
