Commemorative scarves 1994-2002

The five-in-a-row

... a unique feat in the Portuguese football!

1994-95 - Cup Winners' Cup, Quarter-finals, Porto-Sampdoria

Portuguese edition, printed satin type:

Another printed satin type edition. Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

1994-95 - Champion of Portugal

Probably, the first commemorative scarf of FC Porto produced using the technique usually referred as "ricamata" (the Italian word ricamata means, in English, embroidered!):

Printed satin scarf with the champions' caricatures. Put the pointer over the image to see the caricatures:

MISSING! Fernando Peixoto Correia's collection

This scarf is a version of the previous, used by the former fans group Dragões Azuis (Blue Dragons). Put the pointer over the image to see the detail:

Another gift of my friend Bruno Maia

Another printed satin type scarf with the curiosity of showing the dates of the former 13 titles of FC Porto. Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

And one more printed satin type scarf. Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

This one, also of the printed satin type but made with a more primitive technique, displays with golden characters the inscription "National Champion 94-95" and the Cup. The quality of these printings is very poor. Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

1995-96 - Bi-Champion of Portugal

Since this year, the FC Porto scarves, when properly licensed, show the respective statement. Embroidered type scarf:

1996-97 - Champions League, Group Stage, FCP, Rosenborg, Milan, Göteborg

This Rosenborg's edition is the only one I know referring to this Champions League season. In the group stage, FC Porto has a fantastic performance winning with 5 matches won and one drawn resulting in 7 points over the second, which was exactly Rosenborg. Jacquard type scarf:

1996-97 - Champions League, Quarter-finals, Porto-Manchester United

Printed satin type scarf, made in Portugal, but seeming to be aimed to the English supporters. Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest:

1996-97 - Tri-Champion of Portugal

Embroidered type scarf, licensed by FC Porto:

Sublimated type scarf, double face edition:

1997-98 - Champions League, Group Stage, FCP, Rosenborg, Real Madrid, Olympiakos

Rosenborg's edition, jacquard type, double face:

1997-98 - Tetra-Champion of Portugal and Portuguese Cup Winner

The two following embroidered type scarves intrigue me! They are equal except that the first only mentions the Portuguese Cup while the second refers the Tetra and the Cup. However the championship ended by May 10 and the Cup final took place at May 24, i.e., after the end of the championship. In this way since both scarves refer the FC Porto victory in the Cup, then both are posterior to the two victories. So, why to produce a scarf only mentioning the Cup when the main fact was conquering the Tetra, i.e., the notable Four-in-a-row?! Furthermore, although the first scarf only refers the Cup, a clear reference to the Tetra is present: four championship cups are shown:

Cup-Cup version:

Tetra-Cup version:

For me, the most likely hypothesis is that the first scarf is an error! It seems that the scarves of this type were made in Italy; in fact, I imported the first scarf just from this country. It can therefore have happened an error of drawing and the consequent rejection of the produced units, which could never been for sale in Portugal. Finally, maybe those rejected scarves could be sold to the Internet shop from which I bought my copy! It will be like this?

Embroidered type edition commemorating the Tetra:

Variant of the previous:

Another embroidered type scarf celebrating the Tetra:

Double face, sublimated type edition (Curiosity: the number of stars plus the number of cups is equal to 17 and this was the 17th title! Intentional?):

1998-99 - Penta-Champion of Portugal

Embroidered type licensed edition:

Some vending companies use more than one industrial maker for big number productions. So, some differences more or less noticeable can occur. That's why the following scarf only apparently is equal to the previous. Since I prepared both images at the same time, the noticeable differences are real as it is the case of the dimensions, the hue of blue, etc.:

Embroidered type edition, apparently not licensed:

Another embroidered type licensed edition:

A fantastic variant of the previous scarf, sent to me by my friend Claus Deffner, from Germany! This scarf is notoriously narrower, but what is more extraordinary it's that the green and red colours are swapped!

Sublimated type double face edition:

1999-2000 - Champions League, 1st Group Stage, FCP, Molde, Real Madrid, Olympiakos

Jacquard type, two equal faces, Molde's edition:

Jacquard type, two equal faces. It's not a Molde's edition but it seems to be a Norwegian edition:

Only possible thanks to Paulo Barros' kindness!

1999-2000 - Champions League, 2nd Group Stage, FCP, Hertha, Sparta, Barcelona

Beautiful Sparta Praha's edition, jacquard type (double face):

Edition licensed by FC Porto, embroidered type:

Hertha's edition, jacquard type (double face):

1999-2000 - Champions League, 2nd Group Stage, Porto-Hertha

Hertha's edition, jacquard type (double face):

Another very special gift of my FRIEND Bruno Sampaio

1999-2000 - Champions League, Quarter-finals, Porto-Bayern

Edition related to Bayern, jacquard type (double face):

2000 - All-time Cups

I believe this the first of a number of scarves displaying a systematically wrong number of won national championships by FC Porto. The scarf is not dated but the number of Portuguese Cups and Supercups won indicates that it was made on 2000. But, in that year, FC Porto has already won 18 championships while only 17 are referred on the scarf. (Put the pointer over the image to see the details of interest). Embroidered type, licensed (!) by FC Porto:

1999-2000 and 2000-01 - Portuguese Cup Winner

Embroidered type scarf evocating a two-in-a-row wins on the Portuguese Cup:

2000-01 - Champions League, 3rd qualifying round, Porto-Anderlecht

Non licensed Belgian (?) edition, jacquard type, two equal faces:

2000-01 - UEFA Cup, 2nd Round, Porto-Wisła

Jacquard type scarf, two equal faces, a Polish edition bought in Krakow:

Only possible thanks to Paulo Barros' kindness!

2000-01 - UEFA Cup, Quarter-finals, Porto-Liverpool

Portuguese edition, embroidered type, not licensed by FC Porto (1st leg):

Jacquard type, two equal faces, British edition:

2001 - All-time Cups

Once again wrong number of championships won! Although not dated, the number of wins in the Portuguese Cup (11) and in the Portuguese Supercup (12) indicates that this scarf was made on 2001. Like the previous year all-time cups scarf, this one indicates 17 championships won instead 18! (Put the pointer over the image to see the details.) Embroidered type scarf, licensed (!) by FC Porto:

2001-02 - Champions League, 2nd qualifying round, Porto-Barry Town

Barry Town's edition for the Champions League, jaquard type, two equal faces. In the 1st qualifying round, Barry defeated Shamkir from Azerbaijan and in the 2nd round was defeated by Porto:

British edition, jacquard type with two equal faces, for the match against Porto:

Only possible thanks to Paulo Barros' kindness!

2001-02 - Champions League, 1st Group Stage, FCP, Juventus, Rosenborg, Celtic

Several British editions, jacquard type with two equal faces:

This one also exists with white fringes:

And this is almost identical to the previous:

Double face edition:

A gift of my friend Iain Lightbody

Sublimated type edition, with two equal faces:

MISSING! Confeitaria do Peão's collection

Edition licensed by FC Porto, embroidered type:

2001-02 - Champions League, 1st Group Stage, Porto-Celtic

British edition, jacquard type with two equal faces:

2001-02 - Champions League, 1st Group Stage, Porto-Juventus

Edition of unknown origin, jacquard type with two equal faces. One believes that should be produced in Spain. There are other scarves undoubtedly produced by the same manufacturer.

2001-02 - Champions League, 2nd Group Stage, FCP, Real Madrid, Panathinaikos, Sparta

Superb Sparta Praha's edition, jacquard type (double face):

Edition licensed by FC Porto, finely embroidered type. Notice that the Sparta's crest is an old one!

Edition of unknown origin, but probably related to Sparta Praha. Jacquard type scarf with two equal faces:

2001-02 - Champions League, 2ndt Group Stage, Porto-Real Madrid

Jacquard type scarf, with two equal faces. Sold in Madrid:
