Improving Communication and Language Skills of Children with Developmental Disorders: Family Involvement in Graphic Language Intervention
(capítulo do livro Augmentative and Alternative Communication - European Perspectives)
Sumário

Although Portugal has a rather short history of augmentative and alternative communication intervention (cf. Mendes and Rato, this volume), it has already become apparent that there is a need to change strategies. There are three major reasons for this: changes in the educational system, a lack of family orientation, and, in the case of graphic language, a need for competence created by technological developments. The present chapter presents the background, issues that relate to the introduction of the new technologies, and examples that illustrate them.
