Foreign stereographers / publishers - Keystone World 1,200-card set

The 1,200-card World set was published for the first time in 1931 [Darrah 1997, p. 50], and included images selected among the extensive archives of the company (which had acquired the negative files of most of their major competitors). The views in this set are therefore not necessarily from Keystone negatives the V in negative number V27610, corresponding to the image of Madeira on card #505 of this series, indicates Underwood & Underwood provenance, while a "W" indicates that the image came from the H. C. White files [Treadwell 1999, p. 1]. The composition of this set varied over the years, but apparently the images of Portugal were always between #491 and #505. The card mount used is illustrated below:

Grey curved card mount with round-corner images. Printed vertically on the left: "Keystone View Company - [copyright information] - Manufacturers, made in U.S.A., Publishers". Printed vertically on the right: "Meadville, Pa., New York, N. Y., - Chicago, Ill., London, England." The card number indicating its position in the set is written horizontally on top. The negative reference number and the caption are printed horizontally on the lower right.

All the cards include an extensive description in the backside, besides the negative reference number and title.
