Foreign stereographers / publishers - Keystone World 400-card set

The 400-card set was one of the World sets produced by Keystone. The company's World sets comprised 100, 200, 400, 600 and 1,200 cards, with some of the images shared among more than one set. The negative reference number includes a prefix that indicates the provenance of the image, if not originally from the Keystone files (V: Underwood & Underwood, W: H. C. White). The card mount used is illustrated below:

Grey curved card mount with round-corner images. Printed vertically on the left: "Keystone View Company - [copyright information] - Manufacturers, Made in U.S.A., Publishers". Printed vertically on the right: "Meadville, Pa., New York, N. Y., - Chicago, Ill., London, England." The card number indicating its position in the set is written horizontally on top centre. The negative reference number and the caption are printed horizontally on the lower right.

The extensive caption in the backside is a good example of the educational concern that is characteristic of Keystone. Besides the negative reference number and title, a small table on the upper right indicates when the same image is repeated in more than one set, and in that case what is its position in each set (and explains why this particular image is fairly common...).
