Foreign stereographers / publishers - Underwood & Underwood Portugal 60-card set (variants)

Underwood & Underwood launched the pioneer concept of boxed travelling sets around the turn of the century [Darrah 1997, p. 48]. The idea wasn't properly new, but U&U's approach contained some innovations that were very well received by the public, such as packaging (resembling one or more in-8vo. volumes that could easily be stored in a bookshelf) and the introduction of an accompanying guide book (although not all sets had an available guide book). The only set of Portugal produced by U&U had 60 cards and must have been launched not earlier than 1902 (the earliest cards that I know are copyrighted 1902), but certainly not much later than that date. Over the years this set may have had some variations, since a few cards are known that have different images for the same number. The variants (in relation to the 60-card set described in this site) that came to my knowledge are listed under this category. The types of card mounts that I know are the following:

Beige curved card mount with round-corner images. Printed vertically on the left: "Underwood & Underwood, Publishers. - New York, London, Toronto-Canada, Ottawa-Kansas." Printed vertically on the right: "Works and Studios - Sun Sculpture, U&U, Trade Mark - Arlington, N. J., Littleton, N. H., Washington, D. C." The card number indicating its position in the set, the caption, and the copyright information are printed horizontally on the lower right. The beige mounts were used in earlier issues, being replaced later by the grey mounts illustrated below.
