CONFERENCE OVERVIEW:

DSIE’15, the 10th edition of the Doctoral Symposium in Informatics Engineering is part of the "Methodologies for Scientific Research" course and of the workshops series held by the Doctoral Program in Informatics Engineering (ProDEI) at Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and will take place at FEUP on the 29th and 30th of January, 2015. We are delighted to invite PhD students to submit their contributions to DSIE'13 to share their insights and knowledge on their areas of expertise.

DSIE aims to improve the PhD students' proficiency in scientific research, writing and presentation skills. Symposium participants will expose and discuss their research, while receiving valuable expert comments and promoting their own experience. New ideas, methods and applications leads the PhD students to a good improvement of their thesis content.

CONFERENCE TOPICS

Submitted papers must follow the main topics proposed, but are not limited to:

*Computer Architectures

*Computer Networks

*Information Technologies

*Knowledge Discovery in Databases

*High-performance Computing

*Image Processing and Computer Vision

*Intelligent Systems

*Interaction and Multimedia

*Programming Fundamentals and Techniques

*Software Engineering

*Virtual and Simulation Systems

*Web Systems and Technologies

PAPER SUBMISSION

Authors are invited to submit papers reporting research results, which will be evaluated in terms of: originality, technical content and accuracy, significance of the work, presentation (organization, style and clearness), and appropriateness of references to papers presented in earlier editions of the event.

Papers must have a length of up to 12 pages in the Springer format (see below) at submission and should report on substantial research supported by complete results. All papers will be double-blind reviewed by the members of the scientific committee. This requires removing any information which may suggest who the authors are (in the first page, in the references etc.).

All papers must be submitted electronically in the EasyChair system:

The submissions must be in PDF, complying with the official Springer LNCS template provided at:

To ensure that the contribution will be published in the Proceedings, at least one of the authors must be fully registered and the paper must comply with the suggested layout and page-limit. Additionally, reviewers recommendations must be addressed by the authors before they submit the final version.

Each paper author will have a maximum of 20 minutes to present the work during the Presentation Sessions, followed by approximately 5 minutes of discussion.

Carla Teixeira Lopes graduated in Informatics and Computing Engineering from University of Porto. From the same university she also received an MSc degree in Information Management and a PhD in Informatics Engineering. After 5 years as a lecturer at the School of Allied Health Sciences of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, she is, since 2008 an assistant professor in the Department of Informatics Engineering, University of Porto. Her research interests lie at the intersection of information retrieval and human-computer interaction. She is interested in studying information search behaviour and in developing tools that help people search more successfully. Lately, she has been focused in exploring how context can help improve the experience of health consumers searching the Web.

Prof. F. Amílcar Cardoso is a Full Professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra. He developed pioneering work on Computational Creativity in the 90’s, and assumed since then an active role in the area. He currently coordinates the Doctoral Plan on Sciences and Technologies of Information of the Univ. Coimbra, and also the Cognitive and Media Systems Group of CISUC, a team with 17 PhDs that performs research on Artificial Intelligence, Media Systems, Ubiquitous Systems and ICT for Education. He is currently involved in two EU projects on Computational Creativity: the FET CA PROSECCO (Promoting the Scientific Exploration of Computational Creativity) and the FET/ICT ConCreTe (Concept Creation Technology).

Venue

Porto - A lovely city

Porto (ancient, noble, always loyal and undefeated) is one of the oldest cities in Europe, located in the north of Portugal and bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. Famous for its architectural and cultural heritage, this city was classified as part of UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage in 1996 and chosen as the “Best European Destination” in 2014 by the European Consumers Choice.

One of its main icons throughout the world is the famous Port Wine, a sweet fortified wine, exclusively produced in the Douro region, aged in cellars located in Gaia and exported to all over the world. Its unmistakable bouquet, body and flavor are due to the high quality of the grapes, as well as to the region's soil and climate. "Port Wine" is a geographic name of origin initially transported through the River (Douro) in “barcos rabelos” (flat sailing vessels) from as early as the 13th century.
