Sagres is a charming fishing town on the very western edge of the Algarve. This semi-remoteness gives Sagres a distinctive atmosphere and unique blend of activities that will captivate visitors. From the tranquil harbour of Sagres, that is set amidst a coastline of giant craggy cliffs, the 17th century Golden Age of Portugal sailed from.

Silves is an enchanting town littered with orange and lemon trees, sitting on the banks of the Arade River ("Rio Arade"). There is history everywhere you look in Silves, to remind you of its affluent and bold past as a Moorish capital (“Xelb”).The importance of Silves lay in the fact that it was the main access to the inland areas of the Algarve because of its river location, although the river is now too silted up for large vessels to use.

Faro as a destination is often overlooked, simply regarded as a point of entry or exit to the Algarve region and this has allowed Faro to retain its traditional and historic charm. The city, which is the capital of the region, prospered as a fishing port sheltered behind the sand bank islands of the Ria Formosa national park. Today the old town of Faro is unchanged still centered around the harbour while the beach islands are near deserted even at the height of the summer season.
