About Porto
The City of Porto has one of the richest artistic, cultural and historical heritages in Portugal, of which the several monuments and museums all over the city are proof. This was officially recognised by UNESCO, which considered Porto (its historical part) as "World Heritage".
It is to be stressed as well that Porto was chosen "European Capital of Culture 2001" in cooperation with Rotterdam. But Porto is also a city where its history can be found in a small street or in a dialogue with its inhabitants, so we invite you to explore it and start a new adventure here.
Porto Wine is world-famous and has left its mark on Porto. Either by its connections with the English or by the exports made by the Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia looking out over the River Douro.
Although this wine comes from the schistose lands of the High Douro, it is brought to age in Vila Nova de Gaia, in the semi-darkness of the cellars, in oak casks or in bottles.
This precious nectar has endured and, as time goes by, it purifies its qualities. So, time goes by slowly and visiting the Porto Wine Cellars is a must: the various companies offer an unique opportunity to discover this universe of subtle charms, to learn the secrets of this generous wine and to taste it.
