Curriculum Vitae

I was born in Vila Nova de Famalicão - north of Portugal - in 1989. My academic career began in this small city, where I attended high school in the area of Science and Technology.

In 2007 I was admitted at the University of Minho and in 2010 I graduated in Biological Sciences. During the period I have spent in Braga, I also worked part-time in two distinct research groups. The first group works in the field of bioprocess engineering and the second, which belongs to the Centre of Molecular and Environmental Biology, works in the field of yeast biotechnology. In 2012 I completed the Integrated Master in Bioengineering in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. During my master degree I moved to Austria (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna) where I conducted my master thesis during one semester in the field of Plant Glycobiology.

Since September 2012 I have been enrolled in the doctoral program in Bioengineering Systems offered by MIT Portugal which is based on a collaboration between Massachusetts Institute of Technology and several Portuguese universities and companies.

In brief, up to now I’ve been trying to attain a broad spectrum background in biotechnology. Due to my academic studies and previous research experience I believe that nowadays my current professional value has three main forces, which make even more sense when seen as complementary of each other.

  • Bioprocess Engineering background
  • Microbiology and Biochemistry background
  • Network (I strongly value my set of connections!)

Now, I believe it is about time to focus in a very specific area of my research interests. Thus, I have decided to go for PhD.
