Profile
Carlos Pereira did a PhD in Mechanical Engineering under the theme of the combustion of forest biomass. (2012; Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, PT) and has since worked in drying, pelletizing and energetic use of agricultural and forestry waste at IPV. He has published several peer-reviewed papers and conference papers, most of them related to biomass processing technologies (drying, milling and pelletising) and the use of products from the elimination of invasive species for energy production. Since 1998, he teaches several disciplines in the area of energy (Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Heat and Mass Transfer) in several undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the ESTGV-IPV.In 2012 assumed the position of Director of the Master’s course in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management and since 2016 is the Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management.

Maria Nazaré Pinheiro graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 1986, obtained her Ph.D. degree in the area of Transport Phenomena at FEUP in 1994.

Joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (DEQB) of Coimbra Institute of Engineering (ISEC) in 1994 and since then, she is responsible for the teaching of several disciplines in the area of transport phenomena and chemical reactors (Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Unit Operations and Chemical Reactions Engineering) in various undergraduate and postgraduate courses at ISEC.

Between 2001 and 2005, she was president of the Scientific Committee of DEQB at ISEC, and between 2007 and 2009, she was head of department. Since 2009, she was the coordinate of the Master’s Course in Chemical and Biological Engineering at ISEC.

She integrate the research team of the Transport Phenomena Research Center (CEFT) since its foundation in the 90’s. Currently, she is Coordinate Professor at DEQB of ISEC and member of the Scientific Committee of Applied Research Institute (IIA – Instituto de Investigação Aplicada) of the Polytechnic of Coimbra.

    PhD in Engineering (Dep. of Bioengineering & Robotics, Tohoku Univ., Japan, 2007), MSc-Eng (Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Sheffield Univ., U.K., 2000) and Dipl. Eng. in Mechanical Engineering (Minho Univ., Portugal, 1998).

    Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Minho (UM), and a researcher at MEtRiCS (UM) and Transport Phenomena Research Center (CEFT), FEUP, University of Porto. Currently he lectures several Master courses in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. In the past he had lectured several Master courses in Biomedical Technology such as Cardiovascular Biomechanics and Micro/Nanotechnologies and Biomedical Applications at the Bragança Polytechnic Institute (IPB). Currently, he also supervises several PhD and Master students in the field of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering..
