Prof. Emuze Fidelis
Central University of Technology, Free State, South Africa

Fidelis A. Emuze, PhD is a Professor and Head of the Department of Built Environment at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT), South Africa. Lean construction, health, safety, and sustainability constitute the primary research interest of Dr Emuze, who is a National Research Foundation (NRF) C rated researcher that has published over 250 research outputs and received over 25 awards and recognitions. Dr Emuze is the editor of Value and Waste in Lean Construction, Valuing People in Construction, and co-editor of Construction Health and Safety in Developing Countries. Dr Emuze authored Construction Safety Pocketbook for South Africa in 2020. With diplomas and degrees in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Higher Education, Dr Emuze proposed and led the development of 9 accredited university qualifications in South Africa.

Dr Emuze is the International Coordinator of CIB W123 – People in Construction Working Commission.

Prof. Alistair Gibb
Professor Emeritus, Loughborough University, UK

Alistair has led a research team in construction innovation, safety, health and wellbeing for more than 30 years, pioneering work on the interaction between these two domains. He has led projects on nanotechnology, 3D concrete printing, offsite construction, platform technologies, transformational H&S, accident causality, and COVID. His research has engaged with mega-projects in the UK and across the globe. He has been an influencer, working closely with the UK’s Health and Safety Executive, UK Government, professional institutions and industry. Prior to joining Loughborough, he had a successful career as an engineer and construction manager on major projects.

Alistair has been actively involved with cib for most of the last 30 years working on a number of Commissions and Task Groups and is past coordinator of Working Commission W099. He was a keynote speaker at cib’s 2023 World Congress in Melbourne Australia. He is much in demand as a speaker at international conferences and conventions.

Throughout his academic career, Alistair has worked closely with industry partners, in teaching, research and consultancy. He has led funded research and innovation projects for UK and overseas Governments, NGOs and industry organisations.

Currently he is Loughborough’s Emeritus Professor of Construction Engineering Management. His recent engagements have been with London’s Thames Tideway ‘Super Sewer’ project; Transforming Tunnelling Safety, and Dame Judith Hackitt’s Industry Steering Group, implementing the Hackitt review aiming to transform industry culture following London’s Grenfell Tower disaster. He has been closely involved with the Construction Engineering Master’s programme at Cambridge University since 2014.

From 2012 to 2017 Alistair held the European Construction Institute (ECI) Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in complex project management based at Loughborough University. He was responsible for knowledge creation and best practice assimilation within and on behalf of ECI across the European organisation.
