The Department of Civil Engineering (DEC) is the organic unit of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), which is in charge of Civil Engineering in all its aspects: scientific, technical, ethical and cultural.
The following activities are involved in Civil Engineering: Teaching in pre and postgraduate courses, short courses; Fundamental and applied research; Dissemination of knowledge and provision of services abroad.

The Department is located in buildings G and H of FEUP and is responsible for the Integrated Master in Civil Engineering, several Masters in the area of Civil Engineering and collaborates with other Masters in related areas. It integrates four scientific and technological research centers funded by the Science and Technology Foundation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. It has thirteen laboratories that cover the different scientific areas of Civil Engineering and allow, through its complementarity, answers to the problems of research, teaching and services to the industry. Autonomous institutions, namely the Construction Institute, the Hydraulic and Water Resources Institute and the Building Materials Testing Laboratory, with a strong connection to the DEC, are the responsable for external relationships.
