The Acoustics Laboratory originated in the 1960s in the so-called Laboratory of Acoustics and Ultrasounds created at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Porto and was funded by the Institute of High Culture. The laboratory moves to the Civil Engineering Centre of the University of Porto (CECUP) in the early seventies. In 1990 it is integrated in the Construction Institute (IC) where it becomes more dynamic, following an investment in modernization and equipment. In organic terms, this is a Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, associated with the Building Division.
The main objective of the Acoustics Laboratory is to study and analyse the acoustic behaviour of construction materials and components, regarding the improvement of their characteristics and that of its surroundings. In general terms it covers the areas of Environmental Acoustics and Buildings.
The work developed is particularly focused on technological research. LAfeup’s position supports the experimental works of current theses while also responding to external requests, like the characterization of materials and components
