Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) is the largest public University in Greece and one of the largest in South Eastern Europe, with around 68.000 students and more than 2.000 academic staff. It comprises 42 schools covering all scientific fields. According to 2012 International Ranking (webometrics) AUTH is the first University in Greece and among the 0.78% of the Universities, worldwide (compared to 20.000 universities).
Concerning international relations and European educational programs, AUTh is a member of different networks. It has 105 signed MOU’s, i.e. Inter-University agreements with Universities all over Europe, USA, Canada Australia and Asia. Bilateral agreements with 600 European Universities reinforce the international perspective and position of the University. In the University there are also 2 active Unesco Chairs.
The general Research Performance in AUTh reveal the active participation in 48 Research Networks with the collaboration in 1.705 research projects. Over 1.000 teaching and research staff members are active, working all over Europe.
The Department of Civil Engineering (DCE) is the oldest department (established in October 1955) within the Faculty of Engineering in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. The department is organized into four (4) Divisions, those of Structural Engineering, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Transport, Infrastructure, Management and Regional Planning Engineering.
