This is the 20th edition of the series of French-German conferences which initiated in Oberwolfach, Germany, in 1980. Since 1998, the conference has been organized under the participation of a third invited European country. This time it will be jointly organized with Portugal and will take place at the University of Porto. Initially planned to 2021, the French German Portuguese conference in optimization was postponed to 2022.
Join us for four days that will keep you looking ahead into the future of optimization
Since the very beginning, the purpose of this conference series has been to bring together researchers working in all different areas of Optimization and particularly to encourage young researchers to present their work. Theoretical aspects of Optimization, in addition to applications and algorithms, will be covered. The conference is held every two years and usually brings together up to 150 mathematicians. Communications will be in the form of invited plenary talks, minisymposia, and contributed talks.

Designed by Architect Viana de Lima, the architecture of the building (its first project dates back to 1960) is a mix of the author’s modern insight and the more conservative taste of the authorities of the time. The building has courtyards and galleries in a traditional structure (cloisters) and it is formed by geometric solids. Split into four floors, the various areas of the building are linked by a common element – the module.
It is at walking distance to the Science and Technology Park of University of Porto (UPTEC), hosting around 200 tech startups, and is located in Asprela Campus, which holds a large density of talent, knowledge and innovation in a little more than a square kilometer, with more than 14,000 people, mostly with higher qualifications and in functions of high complexity.
The campus also hosts around 38,000 students in more than 500 higher education programmes and launches more than 10,000 graduates a year, which accounts for about one-third of the regional total.

Porto is one of the oldest tourist destinations in Europe and the richness of its artistic heritage, the Port Wine, and its cultural life are just some of the reasons that invite you to visit the city.
Porto was called Portus Cale in Roman times and was earlier a flourishing settlement on the Douro’s south bank; the nomadic Alani tribe later founded the city of Castrum Novum on the north bank. The Visigoths took possession of the site about 540 CE but yielded in 716 to the Moors. In 997 Christian forces recaptured Porto, which for a time became the capital of the counts of Portucalense (northern Portugal) during Moorish rule in the southern part of the kingdom. The Moors again held the city briefly, but in 1092 it was brought finally under Christian domination. In the 14th century the city became an important port, and Prince Henry the Navigator was born there in 1394. During the Peninsular War, British forces under Arthur Wellesley (later the duke of Wellington) there crossed the Douro, routed the French, and captured the city on May 12, 1809.
