New services for efficient urban mobility
Authors: Jorge Pinho de Sousa (DEIG/INESC)
Traditional, regular transportation services are usually designed based on the available resources (offer). With changes in habits and life styles, these services are becoming more and more ineffective and Demand Responsive Transport services (DRT) can become a key component of sustainable and competitive development and social cohesion, being complementary to the conventional, scheduled passenger transport and serving dispersed mobility needs.

New multi-disciplinary approaches are required for enhancing urban mobility. To tackle the multiple decision-making problems posed by these systems (both at the design and at the operational level), multi-objective hybrid optimization tools will be developed, putting together optimization models, along with advanced meta-heuristics.
