Multicriteria scheduling towards Cost Effective Computing (Cloud Computing/Virtualization)

Operating costs, particularly energetic, are increasingly a major concern of those who manage computing platforms. The difficulty to use heterogeneous platforms contributes to an under-utilization of the computer systems. Cloud Computing based on Virtualization will be the technologic breakthrough to increase the ratio of produced computation over the usage of resources, because it implicitly introduces the concept of separation between applications and the physical infrastructure, thus allowing a better system management. New definitions for metrics related to the usefulness of a task to the user as well as for the system Quality of Service (QoS) have to be reevaluated in order to guide the system schedulers.
