Presentation and Background

The activity of Geotechnics Laboratory is focused on the following areas: prospection, field tests (“in situ” test) and laboratory testing of structural elements and foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, others, as well as observation / instrumentation of geotechnical structures. It is equipped with some unusual equipment in the country. It was pioneer by performing some techniques and testing methods are where not yet adopted in Portugal (such as tests with piezocones, some types of geophysical seismic tests in the field, or triaxial trajectories test with universal tensions and / or internal instrumentation and piezoelectric transducers for seismic measurements in triaxial cameras, among others). The Laboratory has experience in running highly specialized tests to characterize mechanical properties of soils and rocks.
