Welcome to the ICSS-8

Welcome to the web site of 8 th International Conference on Sandwich Structures (ICSS-8). Over the last few years the science and technology of sandwich structures and materials has gained an impressive momentum, and the use of sandwich structures and materials in a variety of products covering the range from sporting goods to satellites is on the increase.

The ICSS-8 provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest research and technology on all aspects of sandwich structures and materials.

Europe is in the forefront of these developments, and with the ICCS back in Europe, and hosted by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), it is the aim of the conference to promote and endorse sandwich structures technology to the international community.


The 8th International Conference on Sandwich Structures (ICSS-8) will be held from 6 to 8 May 2008, in Porto, Portugal.
Previous conferences in this series were held at the Royal
Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, in 1989; the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, in 1992; Southampton University, Southampton, U.K., in 1995; the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, in 1998; the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, Switzerland, in 2001;  Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in 2003.; and in Aalborg, Demark, in 2005.

The conference venue is the campus of Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), which offers excellent facilities for high quality scientific interactions.

FEUP is located in the town of Porto in the Northern region of Portugal. Porto is a beautiful and lively city, steeped in history and rich in great experiences. With its magnificent location by the Atlantic coast, Porto is the city of the world famous Port Wine and the River Douro. Porto is the second largest city of Portugal (after the capital Lisbon), has around 250000 inhabitants. Porto is surrounded by other cities. The district of Porto has around 1.5 million people.
