Combating Xenophobia

FEUP as a place of discoveries and diverse reflections where we learn new ways of looking and acting in the world, through iPoint, defends the fight against xenophobia, racism and inequalities that may exist in our community.

Our goal is to create an enabling environment for free and open discussion and to promote dignity, respect and recognition of the importance of strengthening equality and inclusion.

Xenophobia, characterized by the feeling of superiority among human beings, can encompass concepts such as ethnocentrism and racism. Ethnocentrism: guided by the thought of superiority of one culture over the other; Racism involves prejudice associated with the race, ethnicity or physical characteristics of individuals; both are not tolerable concepts in our community.

Even if they do not identify themselves as racist or xenophobic, passive postures on the theme can be unconsciously adopted using silence.

In this sense, we also want to give a voice to anyone who may be a victim of discrimination.

Developing actions to combat xenophobia, racism and discrimination in academia is essential because it is by investing in the diversity of ideas and reflections that universities can fulfill their role in making society evolve positively for all.
