Foreign stereographers / publishers - Anthony's Stereoscopic Views

By the time Anthony's issued the view of Macao illustrated below (mid-1860's?), the region was under the jurisdiction of Portugal (having returned to China in December of 1999). Edward Anthony started publishing stereoviews in 1859, having taken his brother Henry on board in 1862, and the company remained in the stereoview business until at least 1892 [Darrah 1997, pp. 24-25]. E. and H. T. Anthony was probably the largest of the early American publishers. The type of card mount is represented below:

Dark beige flat card mount with early square-corner images.

Backside of the image above. The printed label says: "Anthony's Stereoscopic Views. No. 27. TOMB OF CAMOES, THE SHAKSPEARE [sic] OF PORTUGAL, - Macao, China, - Photo. By M. Miller. Published by E. and H. T. Anthony, 501 Broadway. New-York." (the company appears as E. and H. T. Anthony, which indicates a date not earlier than 1863)
