Foreign stereographers / publishers - Léon et Lévy

Active as publishers from 1866 to 1900, Léon and Lévy (Paris) initially worked for Claude Marie Ferrier and Jacques Alexandre Ferrier (father and son), becoming their successors in 1867 [Pellerin 1995, p. 108]. By comparison with the list of glass views of Ferrier, Soulier, Lévy, that was kindly made available by Professor John Cameron, Department of Art and Art History, Oakland University (see the Ferrier P. & F. & Soulier entry under this category), it becomes clear that the L. L. views listed here or at least those numbered up to #80 reuse the same negatives, or are otherwise produced from  negatives that were made on the same occasion (e.g. view #37f in this listing). It is interesting to notice that this L. L. series of Portugal comprises various types of card mounts, including tissue views, and used captions in French or Portuguese, as presented below:

Tissue views:

Dark yellow tissue mount. Unidentified, but probably of L. L. origin. Card number and caption (in French) printed horizontally on the lower right.

Standard card mount views:

Yellow flat card mount with round-corner images. Printed vertically on the left: "Collection L. L. Paris". Printed vertically on the right: "Vues du Portugal". Card number and caption (in French; possibly also in Portuguese?) printed horizontally on the lower right.
