Foreign stereographers / publishers - T. W. Ingersoll

Truman Ward Ingersoll (1862-1922) established himself as a major publisher of lithoprints (half-tone stereoviews) around 1900, struggling against the decline of his better quality stereoviews, that were in production since the 1880s [Rubinstein 2003]. Half-tone stereoviews were much cheaper, but the quality was far poorer [Darrah 1997, pp. 53-54]. The T. W. Ingersoll negatives were later acquired by the Keystone View Company, and now belong to the Riverside Mast Collection archives at the University of California. Three types of card mounts are known, as follows:

Beige curved card mount with round-corner images. Printed vertically on the left: "American and Foreign Views. - Sold only by Canvassers." Printed vertically on the right: "T. W. Ingersoll, Publisher. - 52 E. 6th Street, St. Paul, Minn., U.S.A." The image number and caption are printed horizontally on the lower right.

Beige curved card mount with round-corner images. Printed vertically on the left: "Ingersoll View Company - St. Paul, Minn., U.S.A." Printed vertically on the right: "High Grade Original Views - Sold only by Subscription." The image number and caption are printed horizontally on the lower right (courtesy of Nuno Borges de Arajo).

Dark green (slightly) curved card mount with round-corner Lithoprint images. The card number and caption are printed horizontally on the lower right. The backside repeats the image number and caption, and contains an extensive printed description of the Madeira island.
