ERA-NET Project PRESAGE
Posted on September 13th, 2021
LEPABE congratulates the team of the Biotechnology group, led by Prof. Luís Melo for the approval of the ERA-NET (European Research Area Networks) project PRESAGE - Potential of wastewater treatment for preventing the spread of antibiotic resistance, organic micropollutants, pathogens and viruses.
New approaches are needed to reduce the emission of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), including micropollutants and pathogens. Different sources contribute strongly to such emissions, which has driven the focus of PRESAGE project on innovative decentralized wastewater treatment (WWT), based on anaerobic and aerobic compact systems. The project has a strong focus on better understanding the relation between the operational parameters of reactors, the microbiological evolution in the system and the development of antimicrobial resistance.
LEPABE team is composed by Luís Melo, Manuel Simões and Ana Pereira from the Biofilm Engineering Lab (BEL), and Carlos Pereira from the Faculty of Sciences-UP, Chemistry Dep. The leading institution is Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, and the other partners of the project are Dresden University of Technology, Laboratoire Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Environnement, Technical University Of Denmark and Universidade de São Paulo.
