Open Forum on

Overcoming Unethical Publishing Practices (Please see also:  Main Topics  &  symposia.htm)

The conference will also include an Open Forum on "Overcoming Unethical Publishing Practices", where an expert panel with over 100 years of collective and active research and education experience will address the obligations of publishers and authors with ethical practices in publishing their work.

Unethical or suspicious publishing (sometimes known as predatory) is an opportunistic publishing technique that exploits the academic need to publish but offers little reward to those who use their services.

The academic "publish or perish" scenario combined with the relative ease of website creation has inadvertently created a market ripe for the exploitation of academic authors. Some publishers are unethical on purpose, while others may make mistakes due to neglect, mismanagement, or inexperience. In this forum, the following aspects will be addressed:

   - multiple submission

   - plagiarism

   - authorship issues

   - conflicts of interest

   - duplicate publication and salami slicing

All delegates are invited to participate in this forum.
