Facilities
NEMAR develops its research and professional activities in the Hydraulics Laboratory, placed at the Civil Engineering Department in the Hydraulics, Water Resources and Environment Division.
These facilities include a wide range of equipment which can be used for research, consultancy and other innovative projects. The laboratory is equipped with:
1- Wave tank (28 meters long, 12 meters wide, 1.2 meters high and an additional central pit with 1.5 meters depth) equipped with HR Wavemaker (HR Wallingford – UK) for 2D and 3D modelling of regular and non-regular sea states, with multidirectional paddles. Central pit to allow reproduction of deep water conditions (4.5 m x 2 m x 1.5 m):

2- Large Wave-current Flume (32.3 meters long, 1 meter wide and 1.33 meters high) equipped with HR Wallingford Wave Generator;

3- Small flume (17 meters long, 0.4 meters wide and 0.6 meters high) with adjustable inclination.

The laboratory also invests in its own equipment suitable for several studies and projects, e.g.:
- Laser Spectra Physics Stabilite 2017;
- Laser Spectra Physics Model 177-60232 (2 units);
- Dantec Fiberflow;
- Dantec BSA F60;
- Dantec BSA 57N11 Master;
- Dantec LDA modular;
- ADV (4 Vectrino Plus);
- HR Wallingford 2D Bed Profiler;
- Optical Backscatter Point Sensor (OBS);
- Physical Models, e.g. for breakwaters, wave energy converters, beach and coastal defences, monopile wind turbines, floating structures, ships.
The laboratory also has a fully time technician which provides the required support for the construction and implementation of physical models, equipment’s maintenance, material and several other activities. Besides that the NEMAR team is also responsible for the scientific and professional requirements of and single project.
