Sessão 1 (27 Fev, 2008 | 18:30)
  • Título: A Framework for Learning Network Usage with Learner’s Social Interaction
  • Apresentação: Marcelo Petry (Aluno Mestrado Integrado - MIEEC)

  • Título: A Generic Coordination and Strategy Model for Multi-Agent Systems (17:00-17:30)
  • Apresentação: João Pedro Bugalho Certo
  • Resumo: Managing a team of heterogeneous robots performing a cooperative task in a dynamic environment poses a challenging job. In this work a model for a multi-purpose, real-time, adaptable, strategical coordination layer is presented. Based on previous work developed for the RoboCup? Soccer simulation, small-size, middle-size and legged leagues, a generic coordination model was built. A multi-level hierarchical approach is proposed with hybrid methods used to switch between concepts. Strategies may be designed with the help of a developed graphical tool. The tool facilitates the strategy design by allowing a graphical interconnection between strategical concepts and the quick reuse of parts of previously designed strategies. The strategical coordination model was instantiated in the RoboCup? Soccer and RoboCup? Rescue Simulation domains.
  • Título: Artificial Intelligence Techniques in Games with Incomplete Information: Opponent Modelling in Texas Hold'em (17:30-18:00)
  • Apresentação: Dinis Alexandre Felix
  • Resumo: Texas Hold'em Poker is a game with incomplete information and non-deterministic, it combines simple rules with a huge amount of possible playing strategies. The project is focussed on developing algorithms for "Opponent Modelling" for this game enabling an Intelligent Agent to select the best strategy to play against each given opponent. Several agents were developed in order to simulate typical Poker player's behaviour and one other agent was developed capable of use opponent modelling techniques in order to select the best playing strategy against each opponent. Experiments were performed using a Texas Hold'em simulator previously developed, in order to verify the capabilities of the Intelligent Agent developed confirming its use of Artificial Intelligence techniques.

  • Resumo: The aim of this project is concerned with the challenge of the interpretation of humans' emotional states based on gathering and analyzing the biometric data. The analyses and post-processing of the biometric data allows classifying the predominant emotional state the subject, which is based on predefined mechanisms of emotional induction, as well as specific methods and tools developed for this project.
  • Título: Microsoft Robotics Soccer Challenge: Movement Optimization of a Quadruped Robot (18:30-19:00)
  • Apresentação:João Manuel Pinto Marques de Oliveira
  • Resumo: The RoboCup? attempts to use a soccer game as a basis for a wide range of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics research, in several different leagues. Among those leagues is the Microsoft Robotics Soccer hallenge, based on a simulation of four-legged robots. This work mainly focuses on the optimization of the movements of these simulated robots. The movements of a legged robot are complex, and trying to optimize them analytically may be impossible or clearly not very efficient. So the work concentrated on studying some metaheuristics and finding their application in this particular problem of movement optimization of a quadruped robot. Metaheuristics were applied to a limited set of robot movements, and the results show that they are effective in improving the performance of the robot movements. However they also made evident some of the weak parts of this approach. From the results and from the characteristics of the robot and the simulation used, some conclusions were taken as to how to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of this approach, and this dissertation proposes changes to the methods used to overcome some of the limitations that the basic approach presents.

Sessão 3 (16 Abr, 2008 | 17:30)
  • Título: Environment-centred multi-agent based microscopic modelling and simulation
  • Apresentação: Paulo Ferreira (Aluno Mestrado Integrado - MIEIC)
  • Resumo: In the traffic simulation field, there is a general agreement that microscopic simulation is becoming more viable, improving the way in which system elements are represented. However, even with more powerful computational resources made available trading off between realism and too much abstraction is an important issue to overcome, as traditional micro-simulation approaches still fail to profit from all benefits that realism could offer to traffic modelling. In this work we bring this discussion forward and propose a multi-agent model of the traffic domain where integration is ascribed to the way the environment is represented and in which agents interoperate in microscopic simulations. While most approaches still deal with drivers and vehicles indistinguishably as a single entity, in this work vehicles are merely moveable objects whereas the driving role is played by an agent fully endowed with different cognitive abilities situated in the environment. It will be discussed the role of the environment dynamics in supporting a truly emergent behaviour of the system, and then on an extension of the traditional car-following and lane-change models with the concept of situated agents. A physical communication model is proposed to explore the different perception abilities of each single driver agent as the basis for different interactions and overall system behaviour. Some performance issues are also identified and the result is a more flexible structure that allows for a more realistic representation of drivers’ behaviour in microscopic simulation models.

  • Title: Organization Oriented Programming: From Closed to Open Organizations
  • Presenter: Professor Olivier Boissier (ENS Mines Saint Etienne, France)
  • Summary: In the last years, social and organizational aspects of agency have become a major issue in MAS research. Recent applications of MAS on Web Services, Grid Computing and Ubiquitous Computing enforce the need of using these aspects in order to ensure some social order within these systems. However, there is still a lack of a comprehensive view of the diverse concepts, models and approaches related to agents? organizations. Moreover, most designers have doubts about how to put these concepts in practice, i.e., how to program them. In this talk we will focus and discuss the literature about formal, top-down, pre-existent organizations, stressing the different aspects that may be considered in their classification. Next, we show how MAS organizations can be programmed either at the agent or at the system level. Finally, we present some challenges for future research in this domain.

  • Title: Reconfiguração Dinâmica em Projetos de Desenvolvimento de Software
