ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN RAILWAYS – A STEP TOWARDS MORE SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION IN EUROPE

“The goal of the project is to research, design, implement and test solutions conducting to energy efficiency increase in railways. In the scope of European Union JU Shift2Rail Master Plan, energy efficiency in railways can be achieved by different means; rolling stock monitoring, renewable energy, energy storage, longer trains (physical or virtual), supported by faster communications and maintaining or increasing the safety levels.

Therefore, technological innovations and products must be developed enabling more sustainable transportation in Europe, access to emerging markets and increased competitiveness.
