DSIE’18 will take place in the city of Porto. The scientific program will be held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). Located in northern Portugal, along the Douro river estuary and bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Porto is one of the oldest European cities. It was born and developed from the northern bank of this river and its settlement dates back when it was part of the Roman Empire. One of the most significant aspects of Porto is its historical centre and its landscape, combining harmony with the urban structure, presenting a frame of rare beauty. The historical centre, the variety of monumental and artistic patrimony and the Port Wine cellars were some of the reasons why UNESCO classified the city as World Heritage, in 1996. Another of its main icons throughout the world is the famous Port Wine and some of the city highlights include the Port Wine cellars, the Sé Cathedral, a neoclassical Stock Exchange, the Portuguese Manueline-style Church of Santa Clara, the D. Luís I Bridge, the S. Bento Station and Casa da Música. The city is also quite varied, with conservative environment as well as modern living side by side. When discovering Porto, you will also find a contemporary and artistic city, with an intense and welcoming social life which has been growing over the last years. Porto won the European Best Destination 2012, 2014 and 2017 awards and has been experiencing an important touristic and business destination expansion.
