Message of the Directive Board [2016]

On behalf of the Directive Board elected for the biennium 2016-17, I salute all the fellow members of SPMicros.

The year 2016 has for us a very special meaning since it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Portuguese Electron Microscopy Society (original name of the society). For this reason, here we pay our heartfelt tribute to the pioneers of electron microscopy in Portugal who had the initiative of founding the society. Since 1966, our society has been following the huge developments in the field of microscopy, by the introduction of innovative technologies and development of new types of microscopes, contributing to the advance of knowledge in the life sciences and materials. We are certain that SPMicros and its fellow members will continue to contribute to the progress of science in these areas.

In 2016, the annual meeting and commemoration the 50th anniversary of the Society will be held at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto, and the Directive Board  of SPMicros will make every effort to organize a program that we hope will be attractive for high number of participants, so that we can celebrate properly this important date.

As it is already known, in 2017 it will take place in Zaragoza the 5th Joint Congress of the Portuguese and the Spanish Societies of Microscopy, and also in this meeting we would like to count on the presence of a large numbers of Portuguese participants.
