Unique Experiences “The other side of Tourism in the Algarve”
It is possible to find a different type of Tourism other than the crowed beaches in the Algarve. There is a vast protected area due to its ecological and diversity status, with an enormous richness in fauna e flora. We invite all to experience some of the following activities that we suggest, which will enable you to enjoy nature while contributing to the enrichment of the region and its people without taking away their identity.

 


Fishing History
During this boat tour, visit the fishing port of Olhão, once the largest one in Portugal, and learn the story behind the tuna fishing in the Algarve. Explore two of the Nature Park’s islands, dive into the crystal clear waters by the Lighthouse and look for the thriving marine life hidden under the surface… We also give you the opportunity to visit and learn about the workings of an oyster farm and taste the lovely fresh oysters accompanied with Champagne. After, we will visit Culatra Island where you will taste during lunch the delicious freshly grilled fish, while surrounded by this old traditional fishing community.

Tour Ria Formosa
Discover the Ria Formosa Nature Park. Learn about the biodiversity of this ecosystem; pass along the tide mill, Armona and Culatra islands. Disembark on this little fisherman’s island and talk with the local people hearing all their wonderful tales.
During summer, and according to the tide, you may even refresh yourself on this wonderful sand bank or explore the wonders of this secret place. If you wish and weather allows you can stay for lunch and we offer you the ticket back in local fisher boats.

Caldeirão hills sensations
For those interested in well preserved areas on the Caldeirão hills/ inner Algarve. Appreciators of good regional food, local cultures and traditional handicraft, this will be an excellent opportunity to visit the Costume and cork oak Museum in São Brás. The day continues inland to learn more about traditional activities such as liqueur production, we do a small pedestrian walk for fauna and flora observation. Lunch will be in a local restaurant with wonderful regional flavours.

General information
Local transport
Train
There is no train connection with Faro Airport. From the city of Faro, you can take the train and travel along the rest of the coast, but this service is often slow.

Car and bus
Faro Airport, is easily accessible; the exit from the coastal road EN125 is clearly indicated. From the airport, there is only one way that leads to the EN125. Most tourist places are accessible within one hour. It takes approximately 20 minutes to Almancil, 30 minutes to Vilamoura, 45 minutes to Albufeira and one hour to Portimão. The bus goes from the airport to the center of Faro. From the bus station, a fast bus (Serviço Transrápido) goes to various tourist places along the coast, the bus leaves, on average, every half hour from the airport in the high season, 07:10-20:40 (weekends and holidays 08:00-19:30). From June until October, there is also a shuttle bus service (Aerobus) to the center of Faro.

Car rental - Faro Airport
There is a large range of car rental companies: Europcar, Avis, Hertz, Alamo, Budget, Rentauto, Sixt and Auto Jardim, the counters can be found in the Arrivals Hall. The prices for renting a car in the Algarve are lower than in North Europe, especially if you choose a local company. You can also reserve a rental car in advance using the service EasyTerra provides, they compare the rates of several providers in a single quote.

The trip takes between 20-30 minutes depending on the traffic.

Airport Parking
Parking lot P1 is by the Departures Hall and P3 is by the Arrivals Hall, these are both intended for short-term parking. Long-term parking can be found at P2 and is behind P1 and P3. The rates are different, at P1 the first 30 minutes are €0.80, at P3 it is €1.30 for the first hour. Long-term parking has a minimum cost of €51.50 for one week.

Shops and restaurants
The airport has a reasonable number of bars, coffee shops and stores. The tax-free division has the customary offering of cigarettes, drinks and luxury foods. However, some items such as liquor and wines can be found cheaper in the local supermarkets. From April to October, there is a cafe/restaurant with a terrace, here you have a good view of airplanes arriving and departing, the restaurant can be accessed by the stairs or the elevator in the Arrivals Hall.
