José Melo currently holds a position as a MCM Scientist at NATO STO Center for Maritime Research & Experimentation (CMRE). Before, he was a postdoc researcher at the Center for Robotics and Autonomous Systems of INESCTEC, in Porto. José was with the Ocean Systems Group from 2010, when he started his PhD, and with INESCTEC since 2011. In 2015 he was an invited researcher at the National Insitute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan under the supervision of Prof. Kenki Tei, at Honiden Lab.
In 2016 he received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, with a thesis entitled Navigation Algorithms for Sensor-limited AUVs. In 2008 he received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a major in Automation, from the same University. In between degrees, and until 2010, José has worked as a Software Engineer, in the coolest place in the universe, CERN!
His current research interests are in the area of Navigation and Sensor Fusion for Autonomous Vehicles.
