Hello, my name is Marco Andre Ferreira e Silva, I am student of Electrical Engineering Course at FEUP.

This website is based on permit monitoring of the project I'm involved in tracking players of Handball.

My contribution to this project will be to detect and track the ball. With this analysis will be possible to obtain directly:

information on type of game of the opposing team

detect whether the ball went out of the playing ground

detect whether the ball went through the goal posts

For this I will make an analysis of their 3D coordinates, using the processing of video images taken from several cameras placed in strategic locations in the pavilion of Sport of the University of Porto .

The task to detect and track the ball will not be easy essentially because of the following characteristics of the ball:

small size

high speed

ball covered by players

To circumvent these problems, I developed some techniques and algorithms to obtain the coordinates of the ball with maximum reliability. The results are then compared among the several methods used. Reliability will be tested using a sensor system.

Due to the location of the cameras, the most dificult step is to obtain the ball's height. It becomes even more dificult due to the use of only one camera. We will see some ways of overcome this dificulty:
