“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”

Ana Mafalda Matos is a Civil Engineer with an MSc in Materials and a PhD in Structures. She is a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Civil Engineering at FEUP and an integrated member of the Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction in the Group of Structural Concrete (LABEST). Her research has been focused on developing and characterising technologically advanced and carbon-efficient cementitious materials (self-compacting concrete, eco-efficient concretes, ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced cementitious composites, digital concrete), experimental factorial design, modelling of material behaviour, non-destructive testing and concrete durability.

Ana Mafalda’s work and training are strongly interdisciplinary, she actively participated in 4 R&D projects related to cement-based materials, and consulting activities, connecting the academy, industry and technical community, counting more than 14 years of experience in concrete materials.

After a career break due to parental leaving, Ana Mafalda got a competitive post-doc 6-year funding contract in the 4th edition of the Individual Scientific Employment Stimulation Contest (2021). Currently, she is the Principal researcher of the project “NEXT GENERATION OF DIGITAL “CONCRETE”: Performance Mix Design and Assessment of Sustainable and circular cementitious composites” in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
