The BIN@SHEFFIELD 2017 was held at the University of Sheffield (Sheffield, United Kingdom) from 30 October – 1 November.

The event focused on the theme how new technologies and processes, and in particular “digitalisation” will impact our lives and business across the following areas: (1) Industrial digitalisation , (2) Health and wellbeing, (3) Smart cities & mobility.

The event’s programme included a variety of exciting activities like themed workshops, open plenary sessions, complementary events as well as gave a great opportunity to participate in or visit the Exhibition Space in order to demonstrate and/or promote a new product/technology/business.

One of the highlights of the event was also the presentation and following discussion with Ian Livingstone, one of the founding fathers of the UK games industry. Mr Livingstone  was the mastermind behind such iconic brands as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. He gave an entertaining and visual account of his struggles as an entrepreneur in the 1970s. He detailed how ‘digital’ has transformed customer habits and business models, he also talked about the importance of computing in promoting creativity, computational thinking and problem solving.

Aside the formal part, the 3 days’ event included also a rich social programme which took the academia and industry partners to Sheffield Universities’ Managing Directors’ Club (MD Club) – Sheffield Institute of Arts, to the Sheffield Winter Gardens as well to the official reception at the Sheffield Town Hall. All the aforementioned offered less formal yet vital networking time.
