Reactive Power Planning

Beatriz Magalhães

Introduction

Reactive power planning is a well-known power systems problem with the main objective of determining the location and size of the reactive power compensation devices to be purchased during the planning period.

DEEPSO is the algorithm used to solve this problem. It is a meta-heuristic that combines the movement rules of Particle Swarm Optimization, the self-adaptative properties of Evolutionary Programming and the rough gradient concept of Differential Evolution.

In this dissertation, two distinct models will be developed and compared: a deterministic model and one where there is uncertainty in load and generation, due to wind power penetration.
