Introduction:
Computer simulation is one of the methods frequently used in science, engineering and industry for studying complex systems. By means of computer simulation it is possible to analyse systems based on "what if" scenarios, but also to retrieve from simulation models extensive statistic results with which a superior understanding of the system is made possible. This simulation package uses the Dynamic Stochastic Simulation Environment (simbase.exe) owned by Feliz-Teixeira, and the next-event technology of simulation. MetroSim is, therefore, a small part of the collection of academic simulation products developed with this environment, as it was also the case of scSim, a package previously developed dedicated to supply chain simulation, among others.

Academic software:
This package is academic software. Academic software means that the software may not be considered a commercial product in terms of code stability, mainly at the level of the user interface. Instead, it is software developed to be used in scientific research or as a personal consultancy simulation tool, therefore focused on the performance, innovation and precision, instead of on the user interface. This simulator is freeware and you will probably be able to download it from some Internet sites. In particular you may get it from the author's websites together with some model examples. In the case you wish to create new models, you should, however, order MetroModSim.
Overview:
MetroSim is the self-running version of the simulation engine used by MetroModSim. With this application you will be able to simulate most metro models created with MetroModSim, although you will not be allowed to create new models or change the basic structure of an actual model. This software is therefore mostly used to advertise the present simulation approach, and also to be delivered to the client who receives a dynamic model of his/her system. This package is, nevertheless, equipped with all the tools needed for studying and analysing any metro network model previously created with MetroModSim, including vehicle injection, timetables management and inspection, frequency, capacities, transit charts, etc., as well as several other important information, most of it represented in the form of charts. The next section 'simulating a model' will give you a more detailed view on this simulation application.

Simulating a model:
Simulating a model is extremely simple, as long as the concepts and the basis of the simulation process used in this application are understood. In this section you will find most of the information needed to achieve this goal. Soon you will be able to simulate and obtain results with your metroline model.
