JTAGer's control bar provides shortcut buttons to the following main commands, as shown in figure 1 below:

Fig. 1: JTAGer's control bar.

  • - File / New
  • - File / Open
  • - File / Save
  • - Search
  • - Clear all breakpoints
  • - Goto line number
  • - Run / Event-by-Event: Lowest level of test program execution. Executes one elementary test action at a time (e.g. TMS1 takes three elementary test actions to execute: set TMS=1 and TCK=0; set TMS=1 and TCK=1; set TMS=1 and TCK=0).
  • - Run / Step-by-Step: Executes the test program, instruction-by-instruction.
  • - Run / Execute Code: Recommended test program execution mode, after debugging. Menu and control bar commands remain active during test program execution.
  • - Run / Pause
  • - Reset: Required to enter edit mode (if the user wants to modify the test program after execution).
  • - Run / Speed Run: Fastest test program execution mode. Should be used only with completely debugged programs, and when maximum speed is required.
  • - Windows / State Diagrams: Shows the state diagram of both TAP and indicates all state transitions enforced by the test program
  • - Windows / Waveforms - Shows the waveforms (on both TAPs) resulting from test program execution
  • - Utilities / Bitstream shifter - This utility provides an interactive interface to both TAPs (buttons replace test instructions to enable the immediate execution of test actions)
  • - Set Up: Enables the user to modify any of the JTAGer's settings, as described in the previous section.
  • - About
  • - Help

Apart from the Set Up (already described) and the Use Parallel Port buttons, most of the shortcut command buttons in the control bar are self-explanatory.
