Modelling and Simulation Projects

Projects can be carried out by groups of two students, at most. However, it is strongly recommended that students select a topic directly related to his/her doctoral research. The list below is not exclusive, meaning students are free to suggest their own projects (subject to validation by the lecturer).

  • Traffic simulation using open-source SUMO: case study of Asprela surrounding area.
  • Traffic simulation using DEC/FEUP’s AIMSUN license: case study of Asprela surrounding area.
  • Implementation of a Web-based traffic network visual data analyser using VIS/VIM and Scientific Visualisation techniques.
  • Pedestrian simulation: case study using LIACC’ simulator.
  • Pedestrian simulation using a selected open-source simulator/model.
  • Ecological simulation: case study using LIACC EcoDynamo simulator.
  • Ecological simulation: implementation of new operations in EcoDynamo.
  • Flight Simulation: case study using LIACC’ Flight simulation approach.
  • Soccer simulation: Adaption of soccerserver to simulate real soccer matches.
  • Handball simulation: Creation of a handball simple simulator.
  • Humanoid Robots simulation: Adaptation of Simspark for enhanced humanoid robot’s simulation.
  • Wheelchair simulation: Development of a realistic wheelchair simulator.
  • Study of general-purpose open-source simulators and their ability to support Intelligent Simulation and multi-agent based simulation.
  • Implementation of agents for performing some tasks in a specific agent-based simulation system.
  • Implementation of an open-source simulator for a specific problem.
  • Implementation of simulation project in NetLogo or Repast.
